1. Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly: your email address and name when you create an account, and the bookmarks, tags, notes, topics, and workspaces you save within the Service. If you sign in with Google or GitHub, we receive your email address and basic profile information from that provider.

To tailor your experience, we also collect a limited set of contextual and demographic information: your browser type, operating system, device type, preferred language, and timezone (detected automatically when you sign in), and an approximate location (country only, derived from your IP address). You may also optionally provide your age range and gender. The optional and automatically detected personalisation data can be reviewed, changed, or deleted at any time from your account settings.

We record limited usage information — when you sign in, how often a bookmark is opened, and which advertisements are shown to you or clicked — so we can operate the Service and report advertising performance in aggregate.

Finally, we fetch publicly available information about the pages you save: their title, description, icon, keywords, and page text. This is what powers automatic titles, link-health checks, recommendations, and Pro full-text search.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information solely to provide and improve the Service — to authenticate your account, store your bookmarks, and personalise your experience, including tailoring bookmark recommendations and the advertising shown to you. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. You can opt out of personalisation, and delete the associated data, at any time in your account settings.

3. Your Bookmarks Are Private

Your bookmarks, notes, topics, and workspaces are visible only to you. No other user can read them, and we do not publish them.

Separately, we keep a shared catalogue of web pages: the address of a page saved by anyone, together with the public information we fetch about it. Catalogue entries record the page, not the person — they are not linked to you or to your account — and they are what allow us to recommend pages to other users. If you would rather a particular link never enter the catalogue, do not save it to the Service.

4. Advertising

The free plan is supported by advertising that we serve ourselves — no third-party ad network sits between us and you, and no advertiser receives your personal information. We may choose which advertisement to show using the personalisation data described above, and we record views and clicks so we can report performance to advertisers in aggregate. Turning off personalisation in your account settings, or subscribing to Pro, stops this.

5. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored on secure servers. Traffic is encrypted in transit, passwords are stored only as salted hashes, and the database enforces per-user access on every request. We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, but no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.

6. Cookies, Local Storage & Analytics

We keep you signed in with a session token stored in your browser's local storage, and we store preferences such as your theme choice on your device. Our website also loads Google Analytics, which sets its own cookies to measure site usage in aggregate. You can instruct your browser to refuse cookies, though signing in requires the storage we use for your session.

7. Browser Extensions

The Linkoteka browser extensions (Chrome and Firefox) store your authentication token locally on your device using the browser's extension storage API. The extensions access the URL and title of the current tab only when you explicitly click "Bookmark Current Page", and read your browser's bookmark list only when you explicitly start an import. No browsing history is collected or transmitted.

8. Third-Party Services

Pro subscriptions are processed by Lemon Squeezy, which acts as the merchant of record and receives the billing details you give it; we never receive or store your card details. We use Google Analytics for aggregate site measurement, and hosting and email-delivery providers to run the Service. To find new recommendations we may send generic topic and tag words — never your identity or your bookmark list — to the Brave Search API. When you use "Find archived copy" on a dead link, your browser asks the Internet Archive directly whether it holds a snapshot of that address. These services have their own privacy policies, and we encourage you to review them.

9. Your Rights

You can access and correct your profile, export all of your bookmarks in HTML or JSON (free and unlimited, on every plan), delete your personalisation data, or opt out of personalisation entirely — all from your account settings. You may also request deletion of your account at any time by contacting us; this removes your account and the bookmarks, topics, and workspaces attached to it. Entries already in the shared page catalogue, which are not linked to you, remain. Depending on where you live you may have further rights over your personal data, including lodging a complaint with your local data protection authority.

10. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by posting a notice within the Service.
